BE ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS

"Hey, why didn't you ask for my help?"
"Lets work together soon"
"Let me put you in touch with my people"
"I'd be more than happy to be a reference for you"

For once in my life, I'd just like to meet some folks that are about their business. You ever heard of that? You know, the people that say what they mean and mean what they say? The ones that make a promise and stick to it? Look, I don't care if you promised to take me out for drinks or to whoop my ass, either way, you better follow through and be about your business. Don't have me waiting at the bar or in a dark alley with with my fight clothes on and you stand me up.

Listen, everyone is not in your corner. In the past year, I've learned that no matter how loyal of a friend, companion, or employee you are, some people just won't reciprocate that same loyalty. That being said, I have become more important to me than anyone else. Now, I'm gonna warn ya'll, you may start to see the "Bitter Brit" come out on this post, but bare with me, I got an attitude. Sit down, I need somebody to vent to.

Let me tell ya'll about the type of employee I am. I am a by the book type of gal. I follow all of the rules, I do it with a smile on my face, and when asked to do something extra, I do it. Hell, you probably don't even have to ask. I probably have your sales up if it's retail. Or I have your kids happy about coming to school if it's child care. Now, let me tell you the type of employers I've worked for. They are the "Hey Britney, can you pick up this shift?" or "Can I schedule you to work overtime since this person quit?" type of people. They are the same people who when I quit (doing the courtesy of giving a two weeks notice) that say "We are sad to see you go, please do not hesitate to use me for a reference" or "Sure! I'd write a letter of recommendation for you". They are also the type who never writes the letter. Who will not respond when you ask about it. But, will still be up in your social media, "liking" stuff.

Fam, first things first. Be about your business.

Let me tell ya'll the type of friend I am. When you call with a problem, I drop what I'm doing. When you call with good news, I drop what I'm doing. When you need me, I'm there. Now, let me tell you the type of "friends" I've had. Those "out of sight, out of mind" friends. The kind that say "Oh, you can't afford $1,000 a month for rent?" when you're already too broke to even buy $50 worth of groceries. The kind that know damn well you was broke and fronted them $20 for a cab but never got it back. The kind that don't call you if you don't have a car to drive them around in.

Fam, first things first. Be about YOUR business.

Now, let me tell ya'll the type of grown ass woman this has made me become. The kind that will call you out on your faults without cussing you out. Instead, I've learned to let my frustrations speak through my art.

(Might still cuss you out afterwards though)

Fam, I'm being about my business.

Look, I understand, things happen. We get caught up in our daily lives. Responsibilities and promises we made can often slip our minds. It's natural. What's not natural is you being a horrible person with crappy intentions.

If you haven't figured it out yet, the moral of the story is, BE ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS. If you not gone do it, don't say you are. If you said you are, follow through. If something came up, verbalize that. If you said you were going to do something, didn't do it, don't plan on doing it, and still showing up in my social media, text messages, or emails, you just need some prayer and a good bottom left shoe to your face. You hella bold.

And on that note, I'm gone sip this tea.

Let's do better in 2017 ya'll.

Peace

-BRIT
