BLACK AND CAREFREE

"While ya'll being distracted by this, look what's happening over here..."

Ya'll know exactly who those types of people are on your friends list, don't you? You can't share a few funny memes, indulge in a hot topic discussion or post pictures of your lit brunch without somebody saying "Some of ya'll black folks be worried about the wrong thing!" And yes, some black folks ARE worried about the wrong thing BUT some black folks can worry about more than one thing at once.

I mean damn, don't ya'll want a break sometimes?

Today's topic is on being BLACK AND CAREFREE. I wanted to make some heart warming post about black folks being able to be happy even in the face of adversity. Being able have joy and be aware at the same time. I had all intentions of posting photos of myself and my friends full of smiles. Making jokes about being black, educated and well spoken but being able to turn that off to be black, turnt up and a bit ratchet. But, the past few weeks have thrown me curve ball after curve ball until I finally took a hard hit from one that really hurt.

(No, I am not about to air out my business.)

Let me just say, it's hard to write about being carefree when you don't feel carefree. And it's also hard to create when your mind is not in a creative space. This week, I have been focused on pulling myself up and not allowing sadness, anger or worry to overcome me. I didn't even feel like making a post today until I realized something. This... the way that I've been feeling the past few days, the way I know that we have all felt at some point in our lives...is EXACTLY why it is so important to have those BLACK AND CAREFREE moments.

The moral of the story is, we already have personal issues that we have to deal with on a day to day basis. Add on being black in America to that list and it will make you want to scream. Yes, it's hard out here, yes, we need to pay attention and yes, we gotta watch our backs and each others but please, find some time to let your hair down and do something that makes you feel free without thinking about the outcome. Maybe it's writing, maybe it's splurging on a get away or maybe it's spending 8 dollars on two cupcakes in the middle of your diet (that one is me). Balance is everything. I hope that you find yourself some black boy/ black girl joy this week and beyond.
