GIFTS: YOU'RE HERE ON PURPOSE
"Tis' the season of giving!"
Welcome to my favorite time of year. Christmas! The hot drinks, the lights, the music, the delicious treats all just make me feel so warm and fuzzy inside. Not to mention the gifts... which none of ya'll are getting this year. Look man, I'm in the middle of building a brand, paying bills and turning 30 in 2019. Ya'll better take these blogs and this smile and get somewhere and sit down.
Besides, have you even used the gifts that you got years ago? Nah, I'm not talking about that waffle maker your mama 'nem got you in 2011. I'm talking about the GIFTS that you were already born with. Your PURPOSE for being here in the first place.
The year was 2006. I was finishing up my junior year of high school and was still uncertain and very insecure about attending college. However, my parents made it very clear that I did not have a choice on whether or not I went to college. I was going and was going away at least once. Not only to get an education but an experience. I'd spent most of high school underestimating myself and my academic abilities which often reflected in my grades and my attitude. I wasn't a bad kid, I just didn't have the confidence. My extra curricular activity outside of school was dance. I'd been taking lessons since I was 10 so I figured that must be my "nitch". Well, I tried out for a dance team at one college, they loved me but my test scores were so trash, I wouldn't be able to join until I proved myself worthy by my Sophmore year.
Fast forward to becoming a student at Columbia. I sat in orientation still not quite sure what I was doing. I knew I liked art so at least I was at the right school but the dance program seemed too intense and I'd shared that I thought about choosing acting for my major with a kid I met and they said I'd be making a huge mistake, so I chose Radio. That lasted one semester, I slept through a final and switched majors immediately.
Here's the thing, I'd been doing performances all my life. I'd been in plays at church, at school. I was always walking around singing. I'd been dressing up as different characters and writing stories to go with them. Nobody had to tell me to do it. I enjoyed doing it. Ya'll, my PURPOSE was there all along. Can you believe that?
Listen family, the moral of the story is; I don't know what your purpose may be or if you've even figured it out yet, but whatever it is, we need it. Each and every one of us were sent here with a special gift that only we can deliver in our own special way. I once heard someone say, "You're purpose is probably something you wouldn't mind doing for free" and while that is very true... ya'll still need to cut the check. Britney got bills too.
I hope this has helped you today. You are a gift and you are here for a reason. I can't wait to see why!
