Let me just start by saying, anyone who knows me, be it personally, through social media, or maybe I just met you in the bathroom at a concert, you know that I'm nothing but a 5'8, piece of positive, vanilla energy. Now, don't get me wrong. I'm not going to sit up here and tell you that I don't have some negative moments. I do. And I find that it's too easy for me to go to that place of negativity. So, more times than not, I choose the ladder.
Ya'll got a few minutes? I need to get this off of my chest.
Before 2017 even came around and people started making New Year Resolutions, I made a personal vow to myself that I would not tolerate anyone or anything that caused me stress or drained my positive energy. I don't care if you're a friend or my waiter that keeps forgetting to bring me extra napkins, YOU GOTTA GO!
Now, this is not a post about me being selfish or cutting people off. That's not the message here. Sit back, let me give you a few reasons why I choose myself first:
I HATE CONFRONTATION - Listen, I'm not one of those women that think it's cute to flaunt a bad attitude. I actually enjoy being sweet to people and seeing the positive impact that I can have on them. As I mentioned in the beginning, I'm usually the ray of sunshine in any situation. I do all things possible to avoid conflict including questioning my own behavior and also seeing the other person's point of view. In other words, I be trying to give ya'll the benefit of the doubt. So, if you're just one of those people that like to look for something to be mad about, take your angry ass on. You ain't gone sit up here and be mad at me for nothing.
SELF CARE - Hey, did you know that it's not healthy to stress about stuff all the time? After a while, it takes a toll on you mentally and physically. How do I know? Well, let me get a little transparent with ya'll without telling all of my business. (clears raspy throat) In 2015, I had my first anxiety attack. Since then, I've had sporadic episodes that occur with stressful situations. I don't believe in taking medication for every little problem or pain. Some things can be healed with a simple change of lifestyle. That being said, it is now, more important than ever, to take care of myself. For me, that means, meditation, laughter, smiling, being around folks that lift you up and sometimes, walking away from those that don't. Oh, and chilling the hell out helps too.
I GO 0 TO 100 - Listen, although I hate confrontation and I am all about self care, you can STILL catch both of these positive hands.
Look ya'll, the moral of the story is, it's not worth it. I know, whatever it is that you're going through seems bad now, but nothing lasts forever. If you're the one walking around spreading all of this negative energy, shame on you. Especially if you have people who try to be a positive light in your life. Some folks don't even have that. And if you're the one spreading the positive vibes, don't let a few energy vampires change who you are. Sometimes, you have to choose you first.
