BLACK MAN MAGIC
"Black guys are lazy." or "It's no good black men." or "I just don't see myself with a black man." Welp! More for me sista! These are some of the negative things that I hear on a regular. Not only coming from people of different races, but from people that look like me. Interesting. I have had these conversations more often than I'd like to admit and I always have to disagree. In a world where our black brothas are being killed, beaten and hated on, I'd like to show ya'll some love. Have a seat and let me pour you a little imaginary glass of Hennessy real quick...
Now ladies, I understand. It's some real messed up brothas out here that have nothing but the worst intentions, if any at all. But don't be mistaken. I always say, idiots come in all colors, shapes and sizes. Just because you date a man of a different race, doesn't mean that you won't find those same horrible characteristics in him too. Now, don't get me wrong, if you happen to find love outside of your race, awesome! Just don't let it be because you lost faith in the brothas. The world is so much bigger than St. Louis. Or wherever you are. Thank God.
Now, I'm not going to sit up here on a high horse and claim that I haven't lost faith in dating altogether at one point in my life, I have. But just like anything else, you keep trying til you get it right. Or you just get a Soul Swipe account and think about how much your dating life sucks. Your choice.
Just kidding, don't do that. Trust me. There are so many awesome God fearing, talented, taking care of home, making moves in Corporate America, well educated, educators, doctors, athletes, musicians, hard working, RESPECTFUL, kind, hustling, and did I mention awesome? Black Kings out here doing the damn thing! And if no one has told you lately, we are proud of you! Today, I want to shine a special light on all of you kings just to let you know that I am rooting for you. I appreciate your boldness, your masculinity, your strength, and your courage to get out here every single day and give the young brothas someone to look up to and someone for your family to follow. Thank you. You sexy chocolate beasts. SEXY. CHOCOLATE. Okay, maybe some of ya'll are more on the creamy side. That's cool. I got love for ya'll too.
As a matter of fact, I happen to know a few of these Kings:
This is the first one I met upon entering this world. He was the perfect example of a man. I called him Daddy.
Here's another one of the first brothas I met upon entering this world. I actually had the privilege of watching him grow and become the man he is today. True definition of hustler providing for his family. I look up to you bro.
This dude is ALWAYS there whenever you need him. How many times have you driven U-haul trucks across Chicago to help me move? Not to mention, he's a great leader for his family and one awesome sense of humor! Cousin Chris.
How could I not mention this guy? Out here working hard and cooking up some fancy stuff that you probably can't even pronounce. Chef Nick Bean. That's cousin Nick to me tho.
Let me not forget my homies. Just a couple of young, educated brothas making moves in Mizzou offices and HBO headquarters. I salute you Darius and Jarred.
Last, but most certainly not least, my King in progress. Who happens to carry the name "King" and wears it very well. He protects his little sisters like the jewels that they are and wants to follow EVERYTHING that his daddy does. To my nephew, you are nothing short of AMAZING.
Guys, this is just a very short list of the men that I admire. To those of you out her grinding and building, I see you, I respect you, I appreciate you.
So actually, as you can see, black men are NOT lazy, they are NOT uneducated, they are NOT dead beats or thugs. But, maybe that's what makes them so intimidating to those who can't handle their light.
No, I may not have that special King yet, but I know for a fact that he is out there. Hey dude, if you're out there and you're reading this, I want you to know that I will find you, And I will love you. Or I'll kill you, it depends on my mood that day.
The moral of the story is, cut a brotha some slack. He tryin.
Happy black history month.
